    TCHAIKOVSKY Symphony No 6

We are extremely lucky to have as a soloist with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales one of the great cellists of the day, Daniel Mueller-Schott, playing Dvorak’s marvellous cello masterpiece, his much loved Dvorak Cello Concerto. In the second half Michael Francis will conduct Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 6, his heart rending final work, which Tchaikovsky conducted only 10 days before his death, so it marks an extraordinary climax to both Tchaikovsky’s life and composing career.

    Sunday 16 February 2014, 3pm

    Conductor Nicholas Collon
    Soloist Chloe Hanslip

BERLIOZ 'Love Scene' from Romeo & Juliet
    BRUCH Violin Concerto No.1
    egwyl / interval
    RIMSKY-KORSAKOV Scheherazade

Our second visit by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales combines three wonderfully colourful works, starting with Berlioz's passionate love scene from his Romeo & Juliet. One of the UK's most talented and highly regarded violinists, Chloe Hanslip, then performs perhaps the most popular of all violin concertos, Bruch's lyrical masterpiece. In the second half the orchestra perform Rimsky Korsakov's exotic orchestral tour de force, Scheherazade, with its wonderful musical depiction of Sinbad's ship on the sea, the Bagdad festival and the Tale of Prince Kalendar.
