I am going to see...

Peter Pan

It is a pantomime which is a special kind of show where there is talking, singing and dancing. It is very lively and the audience are allowed to join in by clapping, shouting, booing and singing.

The story will be told by people on the stage who are called actors.

""

The pantomime is being performed at Venue Cymru.

When I arrive at the theatre there will be a big sign outside and the building will look like this.

It may be a bit busy when I arrive at the theatre as lots of people want to see the show! I may have to queue or wait to go in.

The theatre has a big foyer where I can relax before the show or wait for my friends.

""

There will be lots of people working at Venue Cymru who will be able to help me if I need it. You will be able to see them in the foyer as they will be wearing blue jackets.

A person called an usher will look at our tickets and tell us where our seats are.  The numbers on the tickets tell us where we have to sit. It is not a choice.

When it is time for the show to start, the theatre will get a little darker and everyone will get quiet. If I am as quiet as I can be during the show I will be able to hear more of the story.

When the show starts I will hear music and singing.

If it is too loud I can cover my ears. There will also be some bright lights. If it is too bright I can cover my eyes.

If I want to leave the auditorium at any point, there are quieter rooms where I can go to relax and play. There might be other people in those rooms.

I will see the actors on the stage including Peter Pan, Wendy, Tinkerbell, Smee, Starkey and Tilly.

Dancers on stage

There will be lots of people singing and dancing on stage including Peter Pan and Tinker Bell.

Clapping hands

After each song, some people will clap.

Clapping is nice because it tells the actors you liked their song. If I want to clap, I can. I don’t have to clap if I don’t want to.

If the clapping is too loud, I can cover my ears, or hold my Mummy or Daddy’s or my Carer’s hand.

""

I will see Captain Hook, who is not very nice to Peter Pan and his friends.

If I feel afraid or nervous I can cover my eyes or boo and hiss at him – that can be fun! There will also be a crocodile on stage during the show. The crocodile ticks like a clock and chases Captain Hook, but if I don’t want to see the crocodile I can shut my eyes.

Half way through the show there will be a break. This is called the interval.

During the break all the lights will go on and people will leave the auditorium to get a drink or to go to the toilet. The interval lasts for 20 minutes. There will be announcements over the loudspeaker to tell me how long there is left in the interval.

When the interval has finished, everyone will come back to their seats and sit down again. It will get darker and quieter again, just like at the beginning of the show.

""

The actors will come back on the stage and finish telling the story of Peter Pan.

When the story has finished, all of the actors will come out on stage. This is called a curtain call. Everyone will clap a lot so the actors know how much they liked the show.

Once the show has finished everyone will leave the auditorium and start to make their way home.

I’m going to have a great time watching Peter Pan at Venue Cymru!
