Bel Canto

Currently fully subscribed

Footlights Book Club, run in conjunction with Conwy Library Service, is held on the first Friday of each month, from 12noon, at Catlin’s Café Bar. We focus on novels which have been adapted for cinema, TV and the stage.

Our June book is Bel Canto, winner of the Orange Prize and the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction and a new film starring Julianne Moore.

It is a dramatic love story about a famous soprano, Roxanne Cros, who travels to South America to give a private concert at a party for a wealthy Japanese industrialist.

The guests are all taken hostage and, as tense negotiation begins, and a month long standoff ensues. Those trapped inside the embassy and those who hold them there, find their lives becoming more and more intertwined.

We’ll be discussing this book on Friday, 7 June. Borrow the book from a Conwy county library and make sure you have read it before then! You can access copies from the Venue Cymru reading group collection.

The book club is now full but we are holding a waiting list. Please email if you wish to add your name to it.
